B.J. Novak's 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Character Revealed

One of the last remaining questions surrounding The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has been the identity of B.J. Novak's character.  There has been a ton of speculation whether he'd be friend or foe, including some assuming he'd be Eddie Brock aka Venom.  Novak himself teased that his character was definitely someone from the comics and worked at Oscorp, adding more fuel to the fire. Now Marc Webb has put all of the questions to rest in a tweet, revealing that Novak will play Alistaire Smythe, one of Spider-Man's most dangerous foes.

Alistaire is the son of Spencer Smythe, the inventor of the robotic Spider Slayers that have hunted Spider-Man throughout his heroic career. When Spencer died, Alistaire took over the family business as well as the family hatred towards Spider-Man, encasing himself in a super suit and becoming known as the Ultimate Spider Slayer.

With a Sinister Six film on the way it wouldn't be surprising if Novak will be sticking around for the long haul as Smythe, especially since Oscorp seems to have had a hand in creating all of Spidey's enemies.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens May 2nd.
