'Gotham' TV Series Casts the Penguin, Alfred, and More, but no Bruce Wayne

The debate continues to rage around the PDC water cooler about the merits of Fox's Gotham TV series. For me it'll be interesting to see how they combine some of the cop procedural stuff with what sounds very much like Smallville Batman-style. With production on the first episode to begin soon and Ben McKenzie on board as Jim Gordon, a quartet of new actors have been cast in iconic roles.

First up, Sean Pertwee will be taking on the role of Bruce Wayne's loyal butler, Alfred Pennyworth. With the series largely following a young Bruce in the wake of his parents' murder, the Alfred role should be significant. Robin Lord Taylor (The Walking Dead) will waddle around as Oswald Cobblepot, better known as villain the Penguin, described here as a "low-level psychopath who hides his sadistic lust for power behind an exquisitely polite demeanor.” Erin Richards has been brought on as Gordon's fiancee, Barbara Keen, and Zabryna Guevara will play Gordon's boss, Capt. Essen.

Bruno Heller (The Mentalist) wrote the pilot and will be showrunner, with Danny Cannon directing the show, which already has a series commitment.
