First Trailer for Brit Marling and Mike Cahill's 'I Origins' Starring Michael Pitt

Brit Marling and Mike Cahill explored science and fate in their debut feature, Another Earth, a film that made them both instant indie darlings. At least for me it was a film that was unsuccessful in its aspirations, but Cahill and Marling have found just the formula with their follow-up, I Origins, and the first trailer has arrived.

Faith, science, and destiny converge in the film, which is led by Michael Pitt with Marling in a pivotal supporting role. Pitt plays Ian, a scientist obsessed with the human eye, who falls in love with the mysterious Sofi (Astrid Bergés-Frisbey), a woman with the most unique set of eyes he's ever seen. Years later, Ian makes a groundbreaking scientific discovery that forces Ian to rethink everything he's ever known. There isn't much else that can be revealed without giving away a story that goes in many different and unexpected directions. It's not something that can be summed up in a two-minute trailer, that's for sure...

"The word "ambitious" is thrown around a lot but that is truly the case here, at least in terms of asking big questions and forcing the audience to take a skeptical look at their own notions of faith and spirituality."

At least those were my thoughts after checking the film out at Sundance, and I'm anxious to have a chance to experience I Origins again on July 18th.
