Jim Starlin's 'Dreadstar' Headed to the Big Screen

One of the first sources who revealed the presence of Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy was Jim Starlin, and as the guy who created the intergalactic villain he would know. But Starlin is responsible for the creation of many cosmic characters, many of which are on the 'Guardians' team, and some that are important but lesser known. One of those was Dreadstar, a character that had a cult favorite sci-fi series back in the 1980s as part of Marvel's EPIC imprint. While it remains popular amongst Starlin's fans, Dreadstar now has a chance to reach a whole new audience on the big screen.

THR reports that a Dreadstar film is in the works, not by Marvel but as a Benderspink and Illuminati Entertainment co-production. Dreadstar followed Vanth Dreadstar, the sole survivor of the Milky Way Galaxy, who fights to end an ancient war with the help of his motley crewmates. His powers came from a magic sword which gave him the power of immortality, enhanced strength, and more. The comic was published under a number of imprints over the years, most recently by Malibu Comics in 1994.

No word on who will direct, but that decision will be made after a writer is found. I remember the Dreadstar comics and Marvel graphic novels as a kid, and they were all really big, swashbuckling sci-fi adventure stories. This could be pretty cool if the right talent comes aboard.
