'Game of Thrones' Showrunners to Direct Stephen Hunter's 'Dirty White Boys'

With Game of Thrones' fourth season debuting to record numbers last Sunday, and HBO renewing the hit series through season six, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are looking to get away from Westeros for awhile. The screenwriting duo are set to make their feature directorial debuts adapting Stephen Hunter's book, Dirty White Boys.

Hunter is best known as a Washington Post reporter and film critic who has written a number of novels, including the Bob Lee Swagger series, the first of which was adapted into the Mark Wahlberg thriller, Shooter.  Dirty White Boys was published in 1995 and follows three dangerous escaped convicts and the lawman who risks all to bring them down.

Benioff and Weiss will not only direct, but write the script and produce the project, although it may be awhile before it gets off the ground due to their HBO commitments. Benioff has considerably more big screen experience than Weiss, as he's written the screenplays for 25th Hour, Troy, and Brothers. He also shares responsibility with Skip Woods for X-men Origins: Wolverine.[Deadline]
