'Gremlins' Remake "Moving Quickly" at Warner Bros.
With talk of a Goonies sequel now having perked up again, another 1980s childhood staple rumored for follow-ups is back in the news. A sequel or remake to Joe Dante's Gremlins has been bandied about for years, with little in the way of progress. That changed last year when Warner Bros. put a reboot in production, bringing on Dark Shadows and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter scribe Seth Grahame-Smith to be a part of it. But we haven't heard anything on it since then, but it looks like the Gremlins are definitely back, so remember not to feed them after midnight.
As a brief aside in their story about Goonies, AICN noted that a Gremlins remake is "moving quickly" at the studio, meaning they've likely got it on the fast track. Of course, there could be a reason why they didn't elaborate further on what should be a larger story, but for now let's just take this as confirmation the project continues to develop.
Since anything involving Gremlins can't happen without the approval of Steven Spielberg, we can also surmise he's given it his blessing. Still, the idea of speeding through something like this is troubling.
