First Trailer for 'My Old Lady' Starring Kevin Kline, Maggie Smith, and Kristin Scott Thomas

In the new Paris-set comedy My Old Lady, British treasure Maggie Smith gets to hang up her Downton Abbey garb for awhile, and Kevin Kline gets to revisit French Kiss territory for the first time since 1995, only without the terrible accent. He plays a down 'n out New Yorker who inherits a Paris apartment from his late father, only to discover there's one tenant who stubbornly refuses to move out so he can sell it. So what happens when this American squares off against a feisty old nonagenarian?

 The first trailer for My Old Lady will probably have some looking at it as this year's Philomena, although the comedy is clearly much broader and any drama fairly light. Kristin Scott Thomas plays Smith's daughter who has been cooped up with her mother at the cost of a personal life, and the sparks seem to fly between her and Kline. It's all pretty conventional yet potentially charming if only for the talent involved, although it's a little weird to see Thomas so frumpy after the thorny brilliance of her performance in Only God Forgives.

My Old Lady is the directing debut by playwright Israel Horovitz, adapting his own stageplay. Look for it to open on September 10th.
