Any movie about the world of male entertainment must also have its share of colorful female customers, and Magic Mike XXL is no different. Just a day after we learned for certain that Matthew McConaughey wouldn't be returning to join Channing Tatum for the road trip sequel, the film is adding a pair of veteran actresses in Jada Pinkett Smith and Andie MacDowell.
This being a Warner Bros. project it's not surprising to see Pinkett Smith involved, as she'll be starring as crime boss Fish Mooney on the Gotham TV series. She's in negotiations to play the owner of a strip club, and the studio thinks so highly of her that the role was originally written for a male actor. MacDowell hasn't had a big screen role since 2011's Footloose remake, but she can be seen on the Hallmark Channel's original series Cedar Cove which I hadn't heard of until about 30 seconds ago.
Greg Jacobs will direct Magic Mike XXL for release on July 1st 2015. [Variety/Deadline]
