New Trailer for Sundance Award-Winner 'Fishing without Nets'

I've written a lot about Cutter Hodierne's debut feature, Fishing without Nets, since catching it at Sundance and that's because it has stuck with me. While we've seen other movies on Somali pirates over the last couple of years, Hodierne puts his focus on the conditions that make piracy the only option for those from the poverty-stricken country. The film earned Hodierne the Best Director award for drama at the festival (his short film version won the Grand Jury prize in 2012), and after months of little news Fishing without Nets now has a release date and new trailer.

Fishing without Nets stars was shot in East Africa using Somali actors, and that authenticity shows. Abdikani Muktar plays a poor Somali man who turns to piracy out of desperation to be reunited with his family. It's a film I called "a Coen Brothers film set on the high seas" and here's hoping it gets at least as much attention as Captain Phillips received last year.
