Morgan Freeman, Ken Watanabe, and Bill Nighy Rumored for 'Doctor Strange' Role

It took Marvel a little while to find their Doctor Strange, but when all was said and done it was Benedict Cumberbatch who won the magical role. Still, we don't know much about the film other than Scott Derrickson is directing from a Jon Spaihts screenplay, but now a rumor has surfaced that sheds some light on who is being sought to play Strange's mentor.

According to Latino Review, Marvel is reaching out to Morgan Freeman, Bill Nighy, and Ken Watanable to play the Ancient One. Born in Tibet some 500 years ago, the Ancient One was the previous Sorcerer Supreme before passing the title on to Strange. He was the mentor to Baron Mordo, Doctor Strange's arch-nemesis and likely to be the villain of the film.

If true, it's nice to see Marvel looking at a diverse group of actors for the role, and all of them have the fatherly/commanding presence to do it. Need an actor to dispense some sage, Yoda-like wisdom? These three can do it. Plus how cool would it be to see Freeman or Watanabe in a Marvel film? And Watanabe already has the look down pat after playing Ra's Al Ghul's decoy in Batman Begins. Hopefully this rumor turns out to be legit. Doctor Strange gets conjured into theaters on November 4th 2016.
