Updated on Andy Serkis' Roles in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'

As the scalpel-like dissecting of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer continues (not by us, just enjoy the darn thing, people!), the big question over the weekend has been the voice of the narrator. Y'know, the one who says "There has been an awakening. Have you felt it"? Yeah, that voice. Some have been guessing it was Benedict Cumberbatch, hoping to finally confirm the fan-favorite actor after months of rumors. But no, that's not the case. As was first reported by Hitfix and now confirmed by GMA, the voice actually belongs to Andy Serkis, but there's more to the story than that.

According to Jedi News, Serkis will have multiple roles in 'Episode VII', one that will utilize the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and The Hobbit actor's expertise in motion capture performances. The other will be live-action, and will apparently be very important. Here's the relevant portion...

One of those roles is, as expected, motion capture based - and in that role he will be part of a "group of unbelievably athletic and acrobatic motion capture characters." Also bringing those characters to life is parkour expect Pip Anderson, and "whom I [the source] believe to be Crystal Clarke."

The second role for Serkis sees him take on a "pivotal role in the first act story arc that entwines with Daisy Ridley's backstory," and that role "may have more to it than it seems in the first instance."

Judging by what his character says in the teaser, we know that Serkis' character is Force sensitive, which means he's probably a Jedi of some kind. Perhaps he's a Yoda-type character? Maybe he's the mysterious, lightsaber-wielding figure we only catch a brief glimpse of?

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens December 18th 2015.
