Anderson Hits Ignition on a Death Race Sequel!

When Death Race hit theatres last year I was as skeptical as anybody. It looked stupid and concept isn't exactly ripe for fresh ideas, but lo and behold I actually dug it quite a bit, and now the DVD sits firmly entrenched on my shelf. I still marvel at the idea that they got Joan Allen to even step foot on set, much less play the slimy greasy prison warden. Awesome. Well, apparently writer/director Paul W.S. Anderson(not to be confused with the other awesome Paul Anderson of Boogie Nights fame) isn't quite done with this futuristic demolition derby.

Anderson has brought on Tony Giglio to pen a script for a proposed prequel to Death Race focused around the Frankenstein persona. If you recall, Frankenstein was the monicker handed down to Jason Statham's Jensen Ames character. The mask he wore comes from a long line of previous Frankensteins, so delving into the past of the character should be easy. It also pretty much rules out Jason Statham being a part of the action.

No word yet on a release date or even a start date, as Anderson is well underway on the next Resident Evil movie, which will continue that never-ending franchise's tradition of sucking.
