Looks like that relaunch of The Crow franchise has taken one giant leap backwards. A couple of days ago a rumor was floated that Mark Wahlberg was offered the lead, but now all that's been thrown into question as director Stephen Norrington revealed that he's no longer associated with the film at all. He told Comics2film...
Norrington: "I don't know about that story but I can tell you I'm no longer involved with The Crow."
Norrington says that an actor, name not revealed unfortunately so we can't confirm if it was Wahlberg, got involved and initially loved his take, but then when he read the Norrington/Nick Cave script he shot it down and asked for something completely new from a totally different writer.
Norrington: "As I had gotten involved explicitly as a writer-director my exit was inevitable. I was bummed. I had developed a genuinely authentic take that respected the source material while moving beyond it, and Nick Cave came in and added more depth," Norrington tells us. "I think the fans would have been pleasantly surprised."
While I was never really into The Crow, I liked the sound of what Norrington and Cave were putting together. The plan was to have the Crow entity be more of a creature than just a spirit. Assuming everything he says is on the money, it sounds like Cave won't be involved anymore either, meaning production on this one is pretty much at a standstill.
