Tops at the Box Office
1. The Green Hornet- $34M
Buzzing to the top during a weak MLK weekend, The Green Hornet still managed to take the title for the best debut ever for a superhero comedy, surpassing Kick-Ass's start last year.
2. The Dilemma- $17.4M
For any other film, this would be a decent opening weekend. However when you have the powerhouse line-up of Kevin James and Vince Vaughn, it's ultimately disappointing. By the pair's standards, The Dilemma pulled in roughly half of their typical opening. I'm sure the reason has to do with the marketing, which failed to find the right tone, a problem the movie itself has.
3. True Grit- $11.2M/$127M
Last week's champeen slipped 23% and into 3rd place.
4. The King's Speech- $9.07M/$44.6M
See what a little word of mouth and some Oscar buzz can accomplish? The Colin Firth/Geoffrey Rush starring period piece grew to over 1500 theaters and continues to gain momentum.
5. Black Swan- $8.12M/$73M
Similar to The King's Speech, Black Swan lifted it's total to over 2,000 theaters and is being backed by a ton of Oscar attention for it's star, Natalie Portman. At this rate it might crack $100M.
6. Little Fockers- $7.14M/$134M
7. Tron: Legacy- $5.67M/$157M
8. Yogi Bear- $5.34M/$82.1M
9. The Fighter- $5.12M/$65.8M
10. Season of the Witch- $4.5M/$18M
