Stuff like like this kinda makes me wish Arnold Schwarzenegger had never left office. Then again, I'm not a Californian, who probably have a very different opinion. A few weeks ago he told a group of 'roided up fans that he was looking over nearly a dozen of different movie projects, a couple of them remakes of some of his classics. He also said that he'd be packaging a comic book character. Over the last week or so news has leaked out bit by bit that he was considering an animated TV show. Now we know what that show is, and what that comic book character is that he was talking about. Meet Arnold Schwarzenegger: The Governator.
Yes, the Governator, who'll apparently be some sort of mix of Ronald Reagan and Iron Man(*BARF* on both accounts). The Governator will feature a team of sidekicks and battle an evil organization known as the G.I.R.L.I.E. Men(Gangsters Imposters Racketeers Liars & Irredeemable Ex-cons). One of the Governator's buddies is Zeke Muckerberg, a computer whiz clearly fashioned after Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. >sigh<
Entertainment Weekly broke the news as part of their cover story on the project, and features a video clip of Schwarzenegger talking about it on their Facebook page. He basically says that the series will be like an extension of his real life...
Schwarzenegger: "It takes my entire career, basically, whether it is bodybuilding, action movies, if it is the governorship, it takes all those things and combines it into one, and makes it into The Governator. That guy is designed to fight crime, to fight natural disasters, this guy will be jumping into action.. and he will eliminate the problems."
Marvel Comics legend(turned modern day irritant, in my opinion) is on board as a co-producer, and he seems equally excited over the potential of the series...
Lee: "The Governator is going to be a great superhero, but he’ll also be Arnold Schwarzenegger. We’re using all the personal elements of Arnold’s life. We’re using his wife [Maria Shriver]. We’re using his kids. We’re using the fact that he used to be governor. Only after he leaves the governor’s office, Arnold decides to become a crime fighter and builds a secret high-tech crime-fighting center under his house in Brentwood."
There's no word on where the series will air, but this looks like Cartoon Network all the way, doesn't it? I expect all will be revealed during the press conference set up for April. All we really know beyond this is that the show will debut some time in 2012.
Obviously this isn't aimed at somebody like me, who really just wants to see Arnie blow shit up. But it's a start, and hopefully just the first of more appropriate stuff down the line.
