I skipped out on 2008's
Quarantine
mainly because they refused to screen it for critics. That's usually enough of a warning for me to just stay away. However I caught up with it eventually and was surprised by how well it matches the terror of
REC
, the Spanish film it emulates. John Erick Dowdle directed it, and we got a chance to see him continue his psycho-terror ways with
Devil
just last year.
One thing Quarantine didn't need was a sequel, especially one that doesn't have an already great film to copy from. We're getting it anyway.
Quarantine 2: Terminal is directed by John Pogue, who I've never heard of, and stars Josh Cooke(
I Love You, Man
) and Mercedes Masohn as a kindergarten teacher and stewardess stuck on an airplane when the virus hits. When the plane lands, the CDC immediately has it quarantined. Hilarity ensues.
This marks the directorial debut for Pogue, having spent the majority of his career so far as screenwriter on such movies as
Rollerball
,
US Marshalls
, and
The Skulls
(both 1 & 2). Quarantine 2 will be heading straight-to-DVD later this year, so keep an eye out for it!
