Chris Messina, Michael Parks, and many more join Ben Affleck's hostage thriller, Argo

Production's kicking off on Ben Affleck's hostage film, set amidst the 1979 Iranian revolution. The mostly untold but true story centers on the Iran hostage crisis, in which 52 Americans were taken hostage after the storming of the US Embassy in Tehran. Six managed to escaped and made their way to the Canadian embassy but it was only a matter of time before they'd be discovered. So the Canadian government and our own CIA cooked up plot that sounds like it was tailor made for the movies, one in which a totally made up film production would be used as the cover story. Not only is Affleck directing, but he'll also star as CIA specialist Tony Mendez. The rest of the cast is shaping up to be one that's going to put this on the awards map next year.

So far I've been aware Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Scoot McNairy, Kyle Chandler, Taylor Schilling, Alan Arkin, Nelson Franklin, and Tate Donovan as part of the ever growing cast. But thanks to a recent press release presented by TheFilmStage, there's some new faces and apparently some that I missed.

Chris Messina(Devil), Richard Kind(A Serious Man), and Michael Parks(Red State) are the three newest additions. Messina is probably best recognized for playing the boring husband in Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Kind has been a key supporting player in both TV and film for years, including a memorable stint on Spin City with Michael J. Fox. Parks has seen a career resurgence of late mainly thanks to his terrifying turn in Kevin Smith's Red State.

Also added to the cast that I wasn't aware of are Clea Duvall(Can't Hardly Wait), Victor Garber(Alias), Kerry Bishe(Red State), Rory Cochrane(Empire Records), Zeljko Ivanek(Heroes), and Christopher Denham.
