Warner Brothers puts a halt to David Dobkin's Arthur & Lancelot

So the whole thing with Warner Brothers delaying the start date for Alex Proyas' Paradise Lost while the budget and script were re-examined? Not an anomaly. Today the studio has pulled the breaks on another major film they had lined up for next year, David Dobkin's Arthur & Lancelot.

Set to star relative unknown Joel Kinnaman(The Killing) and Kit Harington(Game of Thrones), it's no wonder that the studio got a little antsy over the $90M+ budget. There are rumors that it's already begun to skyrocket north of $130M, which would be unacceptable for a film without a household name. The film was planned as a modern take on the old Arthurian legend, with a release date set for March 2013, and a start date for next spring. I wouldn't bet on that happening just yet. For one, there's no guarantee either of the two stars can wait if there's any sort of delay.

There could be an interesting turn on the horizon, though. Warner Brothers recently put the kibosh on two Camelot themed films, one from Bryan Singer and another from Guy Ritchie. Deadline notes that if things don't work out with Dobkin, they may look to Ritchie to revive his project. The studio clearly have a lot of justified faith in him, with his Sherlock Holmes sequel due out this weekend. They also recently handed him the reigns of The Man From U.N.C.L.E., which Steven Soderbergh had once been attached to.
