Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep confirmed for 'August: Osage County'

How is it in all this time the two most acclaimed actresses of our generation haven't starred in a movie together before? You mean to tell me nobody thought it'd be a good idea to put Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep in the same film? Did every casting agent in Hollywood have a brain tumor for breakfast? After first being reported back in 2010, The Weinstein Company has confirmed the two are set to star in August: Osage County, from director John Wells(The Company Men).

Based on Tracy Letts' Pulitzer Prize and Tony award winning stageplay, the dark comedy follows the estranged Weston women, who have each gone their separate ways until a family crisis brings them back to their Oklahoma home. Streep will play the wild, pill-popping matriarch, Violet Weston. Roberts will do battle with her as Barbara Fordham, the oldest of the Weston daughters who has more than her own share of problems, mostly involving her struggling marriage.

You don't put a combination like Streep and Roberts together without some serious awards aspirations, so expect August: Osage County to be a major player next year. Filming is set to begin this fall.
