You wouldn't think it, but there seems to be some genuine heat behind Riddick, the second follow-up to Pitch Black. The franchise began as an underdog, earning sleeper hit status that year and helping catapult Vin Diesel into a proven franchise star. But big box office never really followed, even as Riddick was spun off into animated films and video games.
A couple of new images have emerged from the set, one of which is pretty freaking' awesome, with Riddick looking badass with what appears to be a massive bone behind his back. It was no doubt taken from one of the creatures he was forced to kill on the planet he was dumped on, to be pursued by every merc in the galaxy with a grudge.
Universal still hasn't pegged Riddick with a release date yet, but we'll likely get it some time in early 2013 when genre movies like this tend to flourish.
