Ed Helms is Rusty Griswold in the 'Vacation' relaunch
And the hopes of one Anthony Michael Hall have been dashed against the rocks. The chances of him playing Rusty Griswold in New Line's reboot/sequel to National Lampoon's Vacation are now zero, as Variety reports Ed Helms has taken on the role. This after Helms smacked down earlier rumors about it. Tricky devil.
Written and directed by the Horrible Bosses duo of Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, the film has the grown up son of Clark W. Griswold embarking on a similar, ill-fated road trip with his own family. The character has been played by numerous actors of wildly different ages, including Johnny Galecki and Ethan Embry.
Whether Chevy Chase will return as the family patriarch is still up in the air, and the same can be said of Beverly D'Angelo as Ellen Griswold. This sounds like an awful idea, but I have to admit Helms' signing makes me curious. Plus I want to know just how close they'll stick to the previous movies. Will we see Rusty's irritating sister, Audrey, for example?
