Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje to play Kurse/Algrim the Strong in 'Thor: The Dark World'

You probably know Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbage better as Mr. Eko on the hit series, Lost, but to me he'll forever be the powerful and manipulative Simon Adebisi from HBO's Oz. He's been great in pretty much everything he's been in, even managing to shine in last year's terrible remake of The Thing, and now the dude with the difficult to pronounce has landed a role in a major franchise flick.

With production on Thor: The Dark World already off and running, Akkinuoye-Agbabe has won the part of Algrim the Strong in the film. Algrim is one of Thor's more interesting villains, or at least he was back in the day. Created in 1984 by the great Walt Simonson, Algrim was once the most powerful of the Dark Elves. He was tricked by Malekith the Accursed into fighting Thor, but is betrayed and ends up falling into a lava pit. Only saved by his all-powerful living armor, Algrim emerges from the pit a total amnesiac, with his only memory a desire to defeat Thor in battle. He's then transformed by the super-duper cosmic force known as the Beyonder into the being known as Kurse, and granted twice the power of Thor. In later issues he would kill Malekith and become a trusted member of the Asgardian clan.

If you've ever seen Akinnuoye-Agbage in action then you know he's got the physicality to be a credible match to Chris Hemsworth, so I'm looking forward to seeing them go toe-to-toe in the film.  Directed by Alan Taylor, Thor: The Dark World hits theaters on November 8th 2013. [Variety]
