Sure Shots: 'Maleficent'; Charlotte Riley; 'Videodrome'
* Here's how you keep it all in the family. Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, spawn of the two most beautiful people in the friggin' world, has a small role in Maleficent, which stars her mother Angelina as the iconic Sleeping Beauty villain. The 4-year old Vivienne, whose baby pictures were sold for like a gajillion dollars, will play a younger version of Princess Aurora. Elle Fanning will play the grown up version of Aurora, with Sharlto Copley, Imelda Staunton, Sam Riley, Juno Temple, Lesley Manville, and Miranda Richardson co-starring. Directed by Robert Stromberg, Maleficent opens on March 14th 2014.
* Tom Hardy's girlfriend, Charlotte Riley, has joined Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt in Doug Liman's adaptation of All You Need is Kill. Based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka's Japanese manga, the film follows a military recruit in war against an invading alien army, who finds himself reliving his death on the battlefield over and over again, Groundhog Day-style. Riley will play a fellow soldier fighting alongside Cruise. [Variety]
*For a guy who's never made a feature film before, we've been hearing a lot about Swedish commercials director, Adam Berg. He came to the attention of most people with his awesome short film, Carousel, which got him on the shortlist to direct that Deadpool movie which I'm convinced will never happen. He lost that job to Tim Miller(who!?), but now he's finally lined up something up which unfortunately is probably going to move forward. Berg will direct a remake of David Cronenberg's Videodrome. Released in 1983, it starred James Woods as the head of a local TV station who begins programming a show that depicts real acts of murder. Ehren Kruger(Transformers 2 & 3) was hired to write the script a couple of years ago, with the plan to turn it into a large scale sci-fi action thriller. That....kinda sounds like Universal is missing the point. [Deadline]
