The latest trailer for Park Chan-Wook's 'Stoker' is like an entirely new movie

There's no better example of the different ways a studio markets a film to the American audience compared to the foreign audience than with the two opposing trailers for Park Chan-Wook's Stoker. The first trailer released for us was fantastic, moody, creepy, and aggressive in the way it presented the contentious relationship between Nicole Kidman and Mia Wasikowska.

The newly released international trailer is almost like a completely different movie. While the eerie tone is still prevalent, it's more focused and alluring. The "mommie dearest" routine by Kidman is toned down, and we begin to see that there's a lot more going on here than just another murder mystery. There's a seductive aspect to it as Wasikowska's character is sucked into a world of chaos by her charismatic uncle, played by a magnetic Matthew Goode. Combined with a few shots that I think Chan-Wook threw in just for his most loyal fans and this trailer is far and away superior to the last one. Trust me, that's really saying something.

Stoker opens next year on March 1st, and it simply can't get here fast enough.....[Empire]
