New posters for 'The Great Gatsby', 'The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones', and 'Kick-Ass 2'
Whether you're into a glitzy retelling of an American classic novel, a teen fantasy romance, or ultra-violent comic book adaptations, there's a little something for everybody in this latest batch of posters.
Getting bumped from the Oscar-season down to the early summer may have cooled the jets of some who were eagerly awaiting Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby, but Warner Bros. wants to give you six reasons to remain optimistic. They've just released a number of stylish, Art Deco posters featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher, and Elizabeth Debicki. Ingeniously designed, each image offers a close-up of the character, but look closely in the background and you'll notice a key aspect of their personal story. For instance, the yellow car behind Fisher turns out to be very important to her character, Myrtle Wilson. With a hot soundtrack and Luhrmann's usual flourishes done up in 3D, The Great Gatsby opens on May 10th.
Is it possible that tweens are suffering a post-Twilight fatigue? The underrated Beautiful Creatures didn't register a blip on the box office radar, and this weekend saw Stephenie Meyer's The Host open to ho-hum business. That doesn't bode well for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, which already suffers from a lack of star power and the general sense that it's lesser than prior teen romances. Two new posters feature Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower as Shadowhunters Clary Fray and Jace Wayland. As "instruments of good", they must battle ancient demons while she learns deeply held secrets about her family's secret past. Also starring Lena Headey, Kevin Zegers, Jemima West, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, and Jared Harris, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones opens on August 23rd.
And finally, we've already seen Kick-Ass 2 posters featuring Jim Carrey, Chloe Moretz, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, but it wouldn't be complete without one for the film's actual star, Aaron Taylor-Johnson. With so many colorful heroes and villains running around it's easy for Kick-Ass himself to get lost in the shuffle, but he promises to have even more on his hands for the sequel. Not only will he be taking on his former best friend the Red Mist, now known as The Motherfucker, he'll also be joining forces with a team of heroes known as Justice Forever. All the while he'll be trying to stay out of the iron grip of Mother Russia (Olga Kurkulina), who is likely to squeeze the life right out of him. Kick-Ass 2 hits theaters on August 16th.
