'21 Jump Street 2' will square off against the 'Ninja Turtles' next summer

It's been a busy week for Sony in teasing a sequel to last year's smash buddy comedy, 21 Jump Street. A few days ago we learned that the studio was aiming for a summer 2014 release date, having already hired Michael Bacall to work on the script with Jonah Hill. Of concern was whether directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller would return, but producer Neal Moritz cleared that up by stating they would definitely be back. It was all just precursor to the official announcement of when we can expect to see the film in theaters.

Sony has targeted June 6th 2014 for 21 Jump Street 2, which puts it right in the crosshairs of Michael Bay's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It's a bold move, and one that may cause Bay to shuffle his film around to another date. No plot details are available, but we know it will send Officers Schmidt (Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) off to college where disaster will ensue...

Moritz: "It leads off where we ended the last film and our guys are going to college. Now, I can’t tell you more than that because there’s some fun to be had in what college they’re going to and what’s going to happen."
