New trailer for 'The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones'

Does The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones have the goods to stand opposite The Hunger Games as a successful young adult adaptation? Directed by Harald Zwart and starring Lily Collins, what we've seen so far is a film that seems to pack more action than others in the genre, along with a darker aesthetic that sets it apart. But the same could be said for recent box office duds, Beautiful Creatures and The Host.

After debuting at this past weekend's WonderCon, a brand new trailer and poster have been released. Based on the first book in Cassandra Clare's series, the story follows Clary Fray, a contemporary New York teen who discovers she comes from a long line of Shadowhunters, half-angel warriors who protect the world from demons.

Probably the greatest take away from the latest footage is that it doesn't look at all like Twilight, but seems to have a mood all its own to match what appears to be a rich mythology. Also starring Jamie Campbell Bower, Lena Headey, Robert Sheehan, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Kevin Zegers, Kevin Durand, Jared Harris and CCH Pounder, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones opens on August 23rd.
