First trailer for 'Girl Most Likely' starring Kristen Wiig

It's now been two years since Bridesmaids made R-rated comedies fashionable again, and while we've begun to see how Melissa McCarthy has capitalized on her newfound success, it's been slow going for Kristen Wiig. Granted, she's lined up a number of high-profile films that will hit theaters late this year, but all we've seen from her before now is a solid, if minor, part in the indie comedy Friends with Kids. Girl Most Likely (formerly Imogene) is a film that Wiig has been championing for awhile, and the first trailer is here before it hits art houses this summer.

Written and directed by American Splendor duo Robert Pulcini and Shari Springer Berman, the film features Wiig as the titular playwright, who uses her dramatic skills to stage an elaborate suicide attempt and win back her ex-boyfriend. Put into the custody of her gambling addict mother (Annette Bening), she embarks on some wacky adventures while trying to put her life back together. Mental illness appears to be a major factor, so expect a lot of comparisons to Silver Linings Playbook. There's even a big dance number at some point. The film premiered in Toronto where the response was sort of mixed, but Wiig's performance was singled out as a highlight.

Co-starring Darren Criss, Matt Dillon, and Natasha Lyonne, Girl Most Likely opens on July 19th.
