Jason Statham confirmed for 'Fast & Furious 7'

Fast & Furious 6 races into theaters in a couple of weeks with perhaps more questions surrounding the franchise's future than ever. We already know that a seventh film has been green lit, set to begin shooting this summer, and that it'll be a new director in James Wan (Insidious) taking over. But there have been other rumors swirling stretching back a couple of years that continue to make the rounds. Back in 2011 a story emerged that Jason Statham was being eyed for a role, but nothing really came of it. Then earlier this year a whopper of a rumor that revealed he would make what amounts to a cameo, leading in to Fast & Furious 7. If this is the first you've heard of this, click this link if you don't mind one doozy of a spoiler. If returning cast member Michelle Rodriguez is to be believed, then it turns out all of those whispers may have been accurate.

While talking to DesdeHollywood, Rodriguez enthusiastically touted the presence of Statham in the cast....

Rodriguez: “Jason Statham, Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, when you see these guys in a room you know they belong together [...] You can see in their eyes that they have gone through a lot [...] I applaud Universal for getting him on-board!”

Rodriguez's comments also suggest, probably not intentionally, that she will be around for the next film, as well. Letty came back from the dead once, so it probably wouldn't make sense to kill her off again so soon.  Fast & Furious 6 opens on May 24th, which means the press rounds are underway. In other words, expect to learn more about this over the next few days. Fast & Furious 7 is currently slotted for July 11th 2014.
