Robert De Niro joins 'Candy Store' with Jason Clarke and Omar Sy

Having written Steven Soderbergh's multi-tiered drug drama, Traffic, and made his directorial debut on Syriana, Stephen Gaghan is used to working with some terrific ensembles. For his next project project, Candy Store, he's beginning to put together a cast that will live up to his standard.

Already with Jason Clarke and Omar Sy on board, the latest to sign on is Robert De Niro. The screen legend will play a disgraced Brooklyn cop, who teams up with an ex-covert agent (Clarke) who discovers the crime organization he's dedicated his life to fighting is operating right in his neighborhood. Sy plays a king pimp who becomes a part of the larger investigation that will also include a Cold War consigliere and a beautiful woman wrapped up in an elaborate threat against Manhattan.

Candy Store will interweave a number of storylines that will dig into the Brighton Beach criminal underworld scene, so it's a structure Gaghan is pretty familiar with. Not so sure about that title, though.
