First Trailer for Apocalyptic Thriller 'How I Live Now' Starring Saoirse Ronan

This summer has seen no shortage of films where the world is either threatened by annihilation, or has already succumbed to it. This is the End and Edgar Wright's The World's End put the doomsday scenario right there in the title, although nobody will mistake either film for a sobering look at a post-apocalyptic Earth. But now we're entering the fall, and the apocalypse is going to be presented as bleak as it probably should be.

The first trailer has been released for How I Live Now, based on the best-selling novel by Meg Rosoff, and directed by Kevin Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland). Saoirse Ronan leads a fresh-faced cast that includes rising stars Tom Holland (The Impossible) and George MacKay (The Boys Are Back), in the story of a rebellious American named Daisy who goes to live with relatives in the English countryside. After warming up to Edmond (McKay) and embarking on a blissful summer romance, it's interrupted by a nuclear explosion, leading to England falling under harsh military control that they must fight to survive.

It's a great sci-fi premise, and judging by the footage will be rooted in a sense of reality, so along with the talented cast there's every reason to be excited for the film to hit theaters. Unfortunately it's yet to gain a U.S. date, but hopefully we'll get it soon after the U.K. release in October.
