Sink Your Fangs into the First 'Vampire Academy' Trailer

When the first stills from Vampire Academy were revealed yesterday, there were a couple of major things to note. One was that it seemed to be channeling Mean Girls in a lot of respects, which was fitting since its director Mark Waters helmed that Lindsay Lohan gem.The other was that there were no fangs, blood, or anything remotely vampire-esque to speak of. With the release of the new trailer, both of those aspects certainly no longer apply.

Based on the first book in Richelle Mead's popular YA series and adapted by Daniel Waters (Heathers), the trailer reveals practically nothing about the plot and even less about the characters. But there are plenty of fangs, blood, vampire-on-vampire violence, and a touch of romance. Zoey Deutch plays Rose Hathaway, a Dhampir who protects her best friend Lissa (Lucy Fry), a member of the peaceful Moroi vampire clan. The cast is gorgeous and look like they just walked off the CW lot, but at least based on this footage there's not much else to go on. Hopefully future trailers will be more focused, and divulge enough that those unfamiliar with the books will know what's going on.

Also starring Danila Kozlovsky, Gabriel Byrne, Sarah Hyland, Joely Richardson, Cameron Monaghan, Sami Gayle, Claire Foy and Ashley Charles, Vampire Academy opens next Valentine's Day.
