Ben Affleck's Batman Will Be “Tired and Weary and Seasoned"

When Zack Snyder broke the Internet by revealing Man of Steel 2 would be loosely connected to The Dark Knight Returns, fans who knew the source material wondered what that meant. The story features a much older version of Batman at the end of his crime-fighting career, facing his old pal Superman in one final epic clash. It didn't seem to jibe perfectly with what Snyder had done in the prior film, and many wondered how exactly they were going to make it work.

While talking to investors yesterday, Warner Bros. CEO  Kevin Tsujihara confirmed that this version of Batman will be “tired and weary and seasoned and been doing it for awhile.” This is essentially what was revealed in the studio press release when Ben Affleck came aboard to play the Dark Knight, sending angry fanboys into an unreasonable rage, inspired by their hatred for Daredevil and Gigli or something. Um, news flash: Not only will he not be Daredevil, but Jennifer Lopez SHOULD have nothing to do with the film. Tsujihara actually addressed the fan outcry, saying “Ben is perfect for the vision Zack has for that character. The fact that you saw such a passionate response in the blogosphere is really kind of a testament to the love that people have for this character.”

He's not wrong. The worst case scenario would be for people not to care at all. So what this tells us is that we probably won't be getting a Batman origin story, probably a good move to get some separation from Christopher Nolan's take on the character.

Man of Steel 2 opens on July 17th 2015.
