Tom Hardy Confirmed to Play Elton John in 'Rocketman'

You know who would make a great choice to play Elton John? That guy who played Bane. It takes an inspired, or possibly somewhat twisted, mind to think Tom Hardy would be a great fit to play the legendary musician in Rocketman, the upcoming biopic John has been developing for some time. But last spring we heard that producers were reaching out to Hardy for the role, and he must have dug the idea because he's now officially on board.

Previously described as a "unconventional" and a little offbeat, the film will be directed by Michael Gracey who will attempt to bring a "larger-than-life" feel to John's life, which shouldn't be a problem given all that he's experienced. Lee Hall wrote the script with John dropping a few notes as well, and the musician will be re-recording many of his greatest hits and weaving them into the story.

We're so used to seeing Hardy playing the tough guy that it will be interesting to see how he does as someone known for their pomp and extravagance , but if he was looking for a role to really flex his acting muscles on this is definitely it. Filming is expected to begin next fall and I can't wait for the first set photos to arrive. [TheWrap]
