'Breaking Bad' Star Jesse Plemons in Talks for 'Star Wars: Episode VII'

It's been a little while since we've had a new name to toss into the Star Wars: Episode VII mix, after a flurry of reports suggesting everyone in Hollywood had met with J.J. Abrams. Now there's one more contender who has emerged and it's an unexpected one, as The Wrap reports Jesse Plemons is auditioning for a lead role.

The 25-year-old Plemons had a small but pivotal role in Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master, but will probably be recognized for playing Todd on Breaking Bad. He also had a part in Peter Berg's Battleship and played kicker Landry Clarke the Friday Night Lights TV show. Plemons doesn't have the part yet but after a well-received audition is due to meet Abrams some time next week. He certainly looks like he could play the son of Luke Skywalker, so presumably that's what he's vying for.

With filming due to begin soon, expect more news to follow in the coming weeks, possibly on other rumored stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Star Wars: Episode VII opens December 18th 2015.
