'Gotham' Casts Jada Pinkett Smith as Villainous Mob Boss

She's survived The Matrix and been to A Different World, but now Jada Pinkett Smith is headed to the crime-infested streets of Gotham City. Deadline reports that Smith has joined the cast of Fox's Gotham TV series, an origin story starring Ben McKenzie as Detective Jim Gordon and an unknown actor as a young Bruce Wayne.

The interesting thing is that Smith won't be playing one of the good guys. She'll be making Gotham worse as the colorfully-named mob boss, Fish Mooney. The character is described as "an imposing, hotheaded and notoriously sadistic gangster boss and nightclub owner with street smarts and almost extra-sensory abilities to read people like an open book who is not one to be crossed." Smith can certainly play intimidating so imposing should be easy enough.

She joins Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, Zabryna Guevara as Captain Essen, Erin Richards as Gordon's fiance Barbara Kean, Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth and Robin Lord Taylor as The Penguin aka Oswald Cobblepot. Gotham has already been given a full series order with Bruno Heller serving as showrunner.
