Tomas Alfredson to Direct Jo Nesbo's 'The Snowman'
For a long time Martin Scorsese flirted with directing The Snowman, a crime thriller based on the seventh book in Jo Nesbo's crazy popular Harry Hole series. But with Scorsese way too busy with various projects, including the long-delayed Silence, a new director was sought and now one has been found in Tomas Alfredson.
Alfredson, best known for Let the Right One In and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, has come aboard the Norwegian thriller that has detective Harry Hole investigating a series of murders by a killer who leaves a Snowman at each crime scene. Alfredson will collaborate on the script with The Killing creator Soren Sveistrup, while Scorsese sticks around as exec-producer.
Not having Scorsese as director probably hurts the bottom line even if Alfredson may be a more natural fit for the material. But if the film does well the plan is to build it into a franchise, of course.
