'Star Wars: Episode VII' Seeking One More Female Lead
When the Star Wars: Episode VII casting came down earlier today, there were a good number of people complaining about the lack of female roles. The only female part of the new crop of stars was unknown actress Daisy Ridley, joining the returning Carrie Fisher. I thought it was a little premature to start complaining because obviously this was not the complete line-up for such a massive film. And as it turns out there is more casting on the way, including at least one major female role.
THR has the story, saying J.J. Abrams has a substantial female part yet to be filled. It's possible this could be the mixed-race character Lupita Nyong'o and newcomer Maisie Richardson-Sellers were rumored to be up for some weeks ago. It's unclear if either of them are still in contention or if there is another actress in mind at this point. Who knows? Maybe Saoirse Ronan was pulling our legs and she'll journey to a galaxy far far away, after all? Probably not, but I dig this fan's poster of her anyway.
Star Wars: Episode VII opens December 18th 2015, and hopefully there will be a couple of female Jedi running around in it.
