There was a lot of buzz amongst the horror crowd when Mike Flanagan's Oculus started hitting festivals last year. When it opened in theaters just weeks ago it performed well for a small-budget flick, and now Flanagan is moving up to something bigger. And when it comes to horror it doesn't get much bigger than Stephen King.
Flanagan is set to direct and co-write (with Jeff Howard) an adaptation of King's 1992 thriller, Gerald's Game. This one starts off like something out of Misery, following a married couple engaged in some sexual bondage with the wife handcuffed to the bed. When she accidentally kills her husband in the process, she discovers that she is trapped and starts to let the voices in her head take over.
Flangan: “In the tradition of Misery and Dolores Claiborne, Gerald’s Game is one of the most intense and compelling novels I’ve ever read, and this has been a dream project for many years. Trevor and I are very excited to help translate that experience for an audience."
Flanagan will make this his next project, pushing into 2015 his plans to shoot another film titled Diver.
