The '90s were an awkward time for Sylvester Stallone. He was plenty busy, but he was in a weird stage where he was starting to get older and the brawny films he made in the '80s were out of style. And so it stands that perhaps one of his better movies of the decade was 1993's mediocre mountain-climbing flick, Cliffhanger, which is memorable for basically everything you see in that above image. Yeah, it's stupid and cheesy as Hell. About five years ago plans got underway for a reboot of the film and it's only now that it's finally starting to take shape.
While a director has yet to be secured, Joe Gazzam will be penning the script for the Cliffhanger redo, with Neal H. Moritz and Studio Canal producing. The original film starred Stallone as guilt-ridden rescue climber Gabe Walker, who is forced by thieves to scale the Rocky Mountains in search of stolen cash.
This one is likely going to be set up at Sony, who already have Everest, the mountain climbing flick with Jake Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, John Hawkes, and Josh Brolin. How many tough guys does it take to scale a mountain, anyway?
