Woody Allen Sets Joaquin Phoenix for Next Film

This summer Woody Allen will be unveiling his latest film, the period comedy Magic in the Moonlight, starring Colin Firth and Emma Stone. And in keeping with tradition, the 78-year-old filmmaking legend is already gearing up his project for next year, and he's already landed a star in Joaquin Phoenix.

Phoenix, who has been on a run as diverse as any actor of late, will star in Allen's upcoming film that he plans to shoot in July. As usual there are no plot details available just yet, nor a title, but one has to wonder if there will be a potentially Oscar-worthy role in there, just as there was for Cate Blanchett in Blue Jasmine.

But before that Allen will give us Magic in the Moonlight on July 25th. Phoenix can be seen starting May 16th in The Immigrant opposite Marion Cotillard and Jeremy Renner. [Deadline]
