'X-men' Live-Action TV Series in the Works

It looks like Marvel's merry mutants in the X-men may be headed to the small screen! Last October a rumor surfaced that Fox was working on a live-action X-men TV series. They were reportedly in deep talks at the time although nothing was officially confirmed. Now THR is reporting that the series is indeed being developed at the network.

Evan Katz and Manny Coto, producers on Fox's 24, will be developing the series with Star Trek 3 writers JD Payne and Patrick McKay set to write the pilot episode. Talks are apparently ongoing and far from completion, and they'll have to get the blessing of Marvel before it can take place. Given the animosity between Disney/Marvel and 20th Century Fox over the X-men film rights this deal has to be considered tenuous until something is signed. Then again, the X-men are a moneymaking machine and a show could be a huge hit.

As for what the series will be about and the characters it would follow? That much is still a mystery, but one has to guess they'll try to tie it into the cinematic universe they've rebuilt since X-men: First Class.
