After Alice in Wonderland...is Sleeping Beauty Next?

With Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland only a few weeks away from release, Tim Burton is already planning his next mad venture, this time possibly turning his sights on another Disney classic, Sleeping Beauty. Only, this won't be the Sleeping Beauty we've all come to know and love. No, this one will be told from the perspective of the evil fairy, Maleficent, the one who cursed Aurora to die in the first place. According to Aintitcoolnews, the film will even be titled Maleficent.

As the story goes, Maleficent cursed Aurora to die by the age of 16 after not being invited to the girl's christening when other fairies were. Fortunately for Aurora and her parents, one of the 3 good fairies weakened the spell to a mere sleeping curse, which could only be broken by a kiss from her true love. The ending of the film is brutal beyond typical Disney standards, and Maleficent a character so evil that she makes every other Disney villain pale by comparison. I'm actually much more interested in this potential project than I am in Alice in Wonderland. My hope is that Johnny Depp is nowhere to be found. But knowing his relationship with Burton, he'll probably play Prince Philip.

  2. I wish you were right, but I wouldn't put anything past these two.
