When Juno came out a couple of years ago, most everybody rushed to Ellen Page as the obvious breakout star of the quirky comedy. To be sure, she was the film's engine, but the bulk of the comedy for me came from her best friend played by Olivia Thirlby. Since Juno, Thirlby's resume would grind Page's into dust. Not only was she amazing in a little film called Snow Angels(alongside Sam Rockwell and Kate Beckinsale), but she was the best thing about The Wackness also. I'll pretty much follow her to any project she tackles, but I was beginning to wonder where she would pop up next.
Heatvision is reporting that she's signed on to star in Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov's next film, The Darkest Hour. Said to be a the story of a group of American tourists who are in Russian when alien invasion occurs. Thirlby would star as a "trust fund girl trying to survive the attack who teams up with others to try to defeat the invaders."
Bekmambetov will be producing the film, with Chris Gorak to direct.
If Timur Bekmambetov is involved, expect it to be a high octane thrillride. The director's credits including nothing but intense actioners, starting with the wild superpowered Russian flicks, Nightwatch &Daywatch. Then of course the Angelina Jolie starring Wanted. Last year he co-produced the animated adventure,9, alongside Tim Burton.
