Coming Soon: George Clooney in THE AMERICAN

George Clooney isn't exactly my first choice to play an assassin. A spy, yes. A thief, definitely. After watching the trailer for Anton Corbijn's(Control) hitman flick, The American, I'm changing my mind. The storyline is nothing we haven't seen a billion times before. Clooney plays an "artful assassin" who vows to make the next job his last after the last one went wrong.

Looks like a more quiet, cerebral film than an action flick. That's ok by me, since assassins are almost always fascinating characters to peel back the layers of their personality. This one looks like it could be a sortof Up in the Air for hitmen, with the haggard, globe-trotting assassin looking to settle down and find new life. We shall see. The American is set to hit theaters on September 1st, 2010.
