As an avid fan of horror movies I will freely admit that my faviorite sub-genre within that is demonic/exorcism type movies. I suppose it's because The Exorcist is the only movie that has every truly scared me, or it could be my Catholic upbringing whatever the reason, I love 'em. Unfortunately for me there are ALOT of bad movies in this range, especially those trying to be the next The Exorcist. For every The Exorcism of Emily Rose, there are ten, The Exorcist II: The Heretic's but alas this next one looks a bit more the former and a bit less the latter. The Last Exorcism is about a sort of televangilist who gives out exoricism after exorcism to the faithful. Now on his televised last exorcism before retirement Reverand Marcus finds more than a fanatical follower at the rural farm where it's to take place...he finds pure evil! Check out the official synopsis below and the creeptastic poster above, courtesy of BloodyDisgusting.com. I'm not sure if it's the black and white color mix, the Crucifix above the girl, or the physically impossible back bend she's performing, but this image gives me the creeps. Something about people moving unnaturally really gives me the willys right up there with seeing kids in places they shouldn't be.....or clowns....
When he arrives on the rural Louisiana farm of Louis Sweetzer, the Reverend Cotton Marcus expects to perform just another routine “exorcism” on a disturbed religious fanatic. An earnest fundamentalist, Sweetzer has contacted the charismatic preacher as a last resort, certain his teenage daughter Nell is possessed by a demon who must be exorcized before their terrifying ordeal ends in unimaginable tragedy.
Buckling under the weight of his conscience after years of parting desperate believers with their money, Cotton and his crew plan to film a confessionary documentary of this, his last exorcism. But upon arriving at the already blood drenched family farm, it is soon clear that nothing could have prepared him for the true evil he encounters there. Now, too late to turn back, Reverend Marcus’ own beliefs are shaken to the core when he and his crew must find a way to save Nell – and themselves – before it is too late.
THE LAST EXORCISM is written by Huck Botko & Andrew Gurland and directed by Daniel Stamm. Strike Entertainment and STUDIOCANAL present an Arcade Pictures production.
