Oldman, Fassbender, Fiennes, Firth join Espionage Thriller

Gary Oldman, Michael Fassbender, Ralph Fiennes, and Colin Firth have joined the cast of Tomas Alfredson's(LTinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spyet the Right One In) adaptation of . The espionage thriller is based off the first of John Le Clarre's Karla Trilogy of spy novels.

Oldman is confirmed the main role of MI6 operative, George Smiley, who is brought out of forced retirement to uncover moles in the highest ranks of the Secret Intelligence Service. Oldman had been in negotiations for the role since last month. The character of George Smiley has been the central figure in five of Le Carre's novels, and a supporting player in a number of others. Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy also led to a TV series in 1979 starring Alec "Obi-Wan" Guinness.

The script has been penned by Frost/Nixon screenwriter, Peter Morgan.

That's a hell of a foursome. That combined with Alfredson's direction, and a script by Morgan, who I think is one of the three or four best writers working today, is enough to put this firmly on my radar.
