Rumor Mill: Scream 4 Sabotage!

What the hey is goin' on over there on the set of Scream 4? In the last few days we've seen a rash of actresses leaving, like Lauren Graham and Lake Bell, and a rash of sudden hirings. Adam Brody, Marley Shelton, Erik Knudsen, Alison Brie, and Mary McDonnell are the latest to sign up for Wes Craven's slashfest. Could there be more to it than just scheduling issues? Or are major rewrites going on that nobody wants to talk about?

If Zap2it is to be believed, it's far worse than simple rewrites. They state that screenwriter Kevin Williamson, who wrote the first two Scream films which people actually liked, has been canned. He's been replaced by Ehren Krueger, who wrote Scream 3. Krueger also had a hand in scripting Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which we all know was well regarded for its depth of story.

Apparently the Scream 4 story has already suffered from this change, as Hayden Panettiere’s character is said to have been dumbed down significantly. It's fair to note that Williamson hasn't been saying much of anything about Scream on his Twitter page, but that could just be the secretive nature of the story. Williamson's involvement is said to be completely zero as of now, putting the kibosh on any chances of a Scream 5.

So count this one as rumor until proven fact. I just find it odd that there seems to be a revolving door of actors all of a sudden. Maybe a change in the story's direction is the reason?
