Tops at the Box Office!

1. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse- $69M/$162M
The Twi-Hards were out in force over the 4th of July weekend, giving Eclipse the 3rd highest opening weekend on that date ever. Showing at nearly 4,500 locations, Eclipse nearly matched the amazing debut of New Moon falling short by only about $3M. It more than doubled the opening of Twilight, though, which only debuted with roughly $80M. Only.
2. The Last Airbender- $40.6M/$70.5M
Despite being lambasted by critics, The Last Airbender pulled in an impressive $70M over the five day weekend, giving director M. Night Shyamalan his 3rd highest opening ever. The question is whether or not the poor reviews will have any effect on it's staying power.
3. Toy Story 3- $30.2M/$289M
Another $30M for the Pixar gang, and it's now in a race with Shrek 2 to become the fastest animated film to hit the $300M mark.
4. Grown Ups- $18.5M/$77.1M
5. Knight and Day- $10.2M/$45.5M
Not a bad second week for the Tom Cruise/Cameron Diaz actioner, although this is still a far cry from the norm for both.
6. The Karate Kid- $8M/$152M
7. The A-Team- $3.02M/$69.1M
8. Get Him to the Greek- $1.18M/$57.4M
9. Shrek Forever After- $799K/$233M
10. Cyrus- $770K/$1.49M
Squeaking into the top 10 is the latest indie comedy from the Duplass Brothers. While the $1.49M total is paltry compared to the typical John C. Reilly/Jonah Hill comedies, it's a first for the Duplass's. Their most recent film, 2008's Baghead, grossed roughl $140K during its entire run.
