Uncut Grindhouse coming to DVD!

Short and sweet....the theatrical version of Grindhouse is finally coming to DVD! Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright had this to say on his Twitter feed...

"So, get this, tomorrow I am doing a commentary on Don’t. Some of you will know what that means is finally happening."

For those that don't remember, Don't was Edgar Wright's fake horror trailer that played between Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror and Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof. Grindhouse was released back in 2007 as a twin bill, recreating the pulpy grindhouse films that rose to prominence in the 1970s. Grindhouse was a monumental flop, only grossing around $25M domestic, a surprising total considering the wealth of talent involved. For its DVD release, Grindhouse was separated, allowing for full-lenth versions of both films to be released on the format.

The unedited version of Death Proof went on to be one of my favorite films of the decade. I was less enamored of Planet Terror, but I still longed for the uncut theatrical version of Grindhouse with all of the added trailers and spoofs(including Machete!).

No word yet on a release date, but I expect it won't be that far off if Wright is announcing his involvement already.
